Call KIWI® Wire Die today for more information about wire elongation and area reduction.

Elongation percentage

The incoming wire diameter is calculated from the drawn wire diameter for a given elongation by:

Where:
Øin : incoming wire diameter [mm, inch]
Øout : drawn wire diameter [mm, inch]
E : wire elongation percentage [%]

Inversely, the drawn wire diameter is calculated from the incoming wire diameter with:

The elongation percentage can be calculated from the incoming and drawn wire diameter by using:

Area reduction percentage

The incoming wire diameter is calculated from the drawn wire diameter for a given area reduction by using:

Where:

Øin : incoming wire diameter [mm, inch]
Øout : drawn wire diameter [mm, inch]
A : wire area reduction percentage [%]

Inversely, the drawn wire diameter is calculated from the incoming wire diameter

The area reduction percentage can be calculated from the incoming and drawn wire diameter with the following formula:

Elongation versus area reduction

The relation between the elongation percentage and area percentage is

Where:
E : wire elongation percentage [%]
A : wire area reduction percentage [%]
